Wills, Trusts, Estate Planning

Many people believe that if they pass on without a will in effect, their property simply passes to their spouse. This simply is not the case. The State of Maryland has complex and often confusing rules regarding the distribution of person's property when they die intestate (without a will). It is imperative to be prepared and to make sure your will is properly drafted, so there is no confusion and your wishes are carried out as you intended.

Our firm specializes in drafting for clients what we call the "trifecta." This refers to three documents that can provide you and your family peace of mind. The first is what is known as a "power of attorney." This document is executed to provide authority to someone you trust to act on your behalf if you become incapacitated. The second is known as a "living will." This document instructs health care providers as to your wishes regarding extraordinary life-sustaining measures should you become severely injured or ill. And, finally the third document is your "last will and testament." This document ensures the distribution of your property to family, friends, and charities consistent with your wishes and desires.
